Jonathan Cook is to join Flex LNG as CEO in the final quarter this year, leaving his current position as chief marketing officer of Cardiff LNG (UK).
Cook is the founding partner of Houston-based Excelerate Energy, which was established in 2003 and has pioneered concepts in floating LNG storage, regasification and logistics.
Flex LNG said Cook will lead the company’s corporate and business development in his new position, which will include the operation of newbuildings after their delivery and pursuing “growth opportunities throughout the LNG value chain”.
“Flex LNG has a history of innovation and is extremely well positioned with its MEGI LNG carriers set for delivery in 2018. The delivery of these vessels coincides with new LNG production coming to the market and increasing the demand for state-of-the-art fuel efficient vessels,” Cook said in a release today.
Last year, the Fredriksen-controlled company delayed delivery of the two new newbuildings being built at Samsung Heavy Industries until the first two quarters in 2018, from Q1 2017 as scheduled previously.
The delay came after the Oslo-listed shipowner decided to switch to fuel-efficient MEGI engines from the original DFDE engines.
