Former CSCL highflier takes on APL role

Zhao Hongzhou, the former general manager of China Shipping Container Lines (CSCL), has joined French shipping giant CMA CGM and has been appointed as APL’s head of its Greater China region.

Zhao will supervise APL’s business in Mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Zhao resigned from China Shipping Group during the merger between Cosco Group and China Shipping Group. He used to serve several different roles in both groups.

Zhao is one of the most high profile people to have quit CSCL since the merger, which has seen the CSCL brand disappear. He is not alone however. Hong Kong-based analyst Charles De Trenck told Splash last month: “Cosco appears to have completely mishandled CSCL staff and equipment integration. In many geographies, particularly the US, they were said to have fired and chopped former CSCL staff. There was zero planning.”
