Frigstad Offshore secures CNPC rig contract

Singapore-based Frigstad Offshore has secured a charter contract from Chinese oil major CNPC for its semi-submersible drilling rig Frigstad Shekou.

The rig is Frigstad’s first of two drilling rigs under construction at China’s CIMC Raffles. It is set to commence sea trials in September and start operations for China National Petroleum Corporation Offshore Engineering Company (CPOE), a subsidiary of CNPC, upon delivery at the end of 2016.

Frigstad’s second semi-submersible drilling rig, the Frigstad Kristiansand, remains under construction at the Chinese shipyard.

Frigstad ordered the two rigs in 2013, with options to order additional four units. Deliveries in the original contract were set in the fourth quarter of 2015 and second quarter of 2016 and Frigstad had postponed the deliveries to the end of 2016 and 2017.
