Gadani tanker fire death toll climbs

The death toll has climbed to 18 following yesterday’s massive explosion on a beached tanker at the Gadani ship recycling area in Pakistan, a figure that is sadly like to rise further. Another 65 are injured, many with severe burns, and more than 50 workers remain unaccounted for.

Welders working the ship tapped into a gas tank, leading to an explosion that quickly became a massive blaze, trapping many workers inside the ship.

The ship was still ablaze today despite many more firefighters being drafted in.
