Gearbulk vessel sinks off Vietnam, 2 dead and 16 missing

Ho Chi Minh City: Authorities are searching for 16 missing crew members after the 56,000 dwt bulker, Bulk Jupiter, capsized and sank 150 nautical miles off Vung Tau yesterday.
 
One of the nineteen Philippine crew members was saved, and two bodies were recovered, after the Vietnam Maritime Rescue Cooperation Center sent word out to vessels in the area after receiving distress signals from the ship early Friday morning.
 
In a statement, the owner of the vessel, Gearbulk, said the vessel departed from Kuantan on 30th December carrying about 46,400 mts of bauxite. 
 
Search and rescue operations continue and include Vietnamese vessel SAR 413, Zim Asia, Sea Land Meteor, and tugboats OLNG Muttrah and Kota Nekad. [03/01/15]
