GEFO opts for LNG power on newbuild chemical tanker

German owner GEFO Gesellschaft für Oeltransporte has opted to equip 7,000 dwt tanker Tosca to operate on LNG.

The Tosca is under construction at AVIC shipyard in China, and due for delivery in 2021. GEFO has a series of eight tankers on order at AVIC, all of which are LNG-ready.

GEFO says the LNG move will cost around $4m, and a European charterer has secured first right of refusal on initial deployment of the vessel.

Currently, GEFO has a fleet of 148 tankers, made up of 26 seagoing tankers and 122 river tankers.
