General cargo ship sinks off Vietnam

General cargo ship An Phu Khang 079 (1,943dwt, built 2013) suffered from water leakage in its engine room while it was carrying 1,500 tons of nitrates from Hai Phong to Dong Nai in Vietnam in rough weather conditions yesterday.

The vessel sent distress signals to local maritime safety authorities and nearby vessels to request help. Ten crew members onboard jumped off the ship with life jackets, and all were picked up by a fishing vessel nearby.

The vessel, which is managed by An Phu Khang Trading Service, finally sank off the coast of Dong Ha province.
