General cargo vessel runs aground off Vietnam

Hanoi: General cargo vessel Hai Truong 36 (1,013 dwt, built 2002) ran aground in the morning July 5 off the coast of Binh Thuan province in southern Vietnam.

The vessel was carrying rice from Hai Phong.

Local maritime authorities has sent rescue team for the vessel, which avoided the risk of capsizing through ballasting after it was tilted about 20 degrees. The crew members remain onboard.

Last night the vessel offloaded about 500 tons of rice and refloating of the vessel will start today.
