General manager of PetroChina investigated by authorities

Beijing: China’s Commission for Discipline Inspection has announced that general manager of state-run energy giant PetroChina, Liao Yongyuan, is being investigated by authorities for corruption activities.

Liao joined PetroChina in 1996, and he was appointed to the position of general manager in May 2013.

Since the central government’s investigation into activities at PetroChina began in 2012, there have been 46 officials in the group arrested by authorities for corruption, including the former head Jiang Jiemin.

In the recent national congress meeting, the central government has committed to accelerate anti-corruption efforts this year. To date, the government has sent corruption inspection teams to 26 state-run companies.
