Giant fire breaks out at Jurong Island oil tank

More than 150 members of Singapore’s Civil Defence Force (SCDF) rushed to a huge fire on Jurong Island this afternoon where an oil tank was ablaze. The tank, which belongs to Jurong Aromatics Corp, crumpled under the intensity of the heat.

SCDF said the firefighting operation was expected to be a “prolonged operation”. The fore could be seen from miles out to sea. Firefighters have deployed a large foam monitor, as well as several ground water monitors and put in drencher systems to cool down two nearby oil tanks.

No cause of the fire has yet been identified.
