Giant Saudi repair yard slated

Doha: Saudi Aramco plans to enter a ship repair project in Jazan worth up to $4bn. Located in the area of Ras Al-Khair in the east of the kingdom, a South Korean partner, STX, has been sought to work on the project.

Ras Al-Khair is a new port city with a focus on minerals, specifically phosphate and bauxite.

The construction of the giant new yard is expected to begin in 2014, and to be fully operational by 2017 or 2018 at the latest. The site will be able to handle the largest tankers afloat.  [24/03/13]
