Giorgi pours cold water on Chinese cruise market

Singapore: The president of the world’s largest shipmanager has poured some cold water on the China’s cruise market, the fastest growing nation cruise-wise in the world. Roberto Giorgi, president of V.Ships, told SinoShip News: “If you have very high expectations in terms of scale, penetration and time then you could be disappointed.” He said the middle classes needed to evolve more. A bigger commitment from all stakeholders in China – government, ports and travel agents – was also very important to nurture growth, Giorgi said.

In terms of international lines calling the People’s Republic, Giorgi said: “The vessels and service need to be more what the Chinese want.”  [05/10/12]
