Global Ship Lease raising $40m for fleet growth

London-based containership owner Global Ship Lease (GSL) has commenced a $40m public offering of its Class A common shares.

The company says the proceeds of the offering will be used for general corporate purposes, including the acquisition of containerships or prepayment of debt.

Last week, GSL agreed a new syndicated $268m credit facility with a number of lenders to refinance its debt, paving the way for possible expansion.

Global Ship Lease currently owns a fleet of 40 containerships, ranging from 2,207 teu to 11,040 teu.
