Global United pounces for suezmax

Global United Shipping, the fast growing Indian joint venture between Japan’s Nissen Kaiun and Mumbai-based Synergy Maritime, has snapped up its first crude tanker.

The JV has bagged a 16-year-old suezmax, now renamed as Sri Vishnu, from DHT Holdings for $26.5m. DHT had come close to offloading the vessel in November to Greece’s Moundreas Shipping for $27m but the deal fell through.

Global United is building up a formidable fleet fast, with a VLGC, some LPG carriers and few dry bulk carriers among its 10-strong fleet.
