Golar LNG and Schlumberger team up for ‘low-cost’ LNG production

Golar LNG and Schlumberger have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) that will see the two companies cooperate to help lower the cost of LNG production from gas reserves worldwide.

Both companies will jointly market their services to owners of gas reserves, investors and governments, Golar said today.

Golar will be marketing its floating LNG (FLNG) vessels and technology. Schlumberger specialises in providing technology, IT and project management services to the oil and gas industry and, in the partnership, will focus on managing upstream development.

“The intention of this integrated offer is to gain access to a wide range of uneconomic gas reserves by delivering low-cost LNG production solutions,” Golar commented.

This is a ground breaking agreement that will provide resource holders with a completely integrated package both reducing risk and securing financing for gas projects. The main aim of the venture is to accelerated the time it takes to bring proven gas reserves into production.

The companies’ first joint project is expected to be announced within the next two months.
