Great Lakes tanker plan scrapped

Long held plans to ship oil around the Great Lakes have been shelved to the glee and relief of many environmentalists.

Calumet Specialty Products has ditched the idea of constructing an oil terminal in Superior that could have transferred western US and Canadian oil to tankers to move to eastern refineries, citing its inability to find the right partner to proceed with the project.

Indiana-based Calumet owns the former Murphy Oil refinery in Superior — Wisconsin’s only oil refinery.
