Vancouver: Three ex-Teekay executives have joined forces to create a consultancy to help private equity and banks handle the growing number of ships they control.
Based in Vancouver, Greystoke Marine Management’s founders are Robert Hedley, Mads Meldgaard and Roy Spires.
It was last Septmber, Hedley recalls, that the three men agreed to work together as a team to offer their experience to hedge fund managers, private equity and other finance institutions who might not have specific marine knowledge – be that technical, commercial or financial – in house.
“Turmoil often creates opportunities,” Hedley tells Maritime CEO.
Hedley reckons the mega mergers seen in shipmanagement in recent years have created entities with enormous purchasing power, but by the same token he questions whether owners’ assets are getting the same degree of attention as before.
“Our primary offering is ‘manage the manager’ services to provide oversight from experienced maritime professionals,” Hedley explains.
