Guangzhou Port outlines massive expansion plans

Guangzhou government has released a new international shipping center development plan for 2015-2017.

According to the plan, the city will invest around RMB100bn ($15.7bn) for more than 60 major shipping and port related projects, and made a target of achieving annual cargo throughput of 550m tons and container throughput of 20m teu by the end of 2017.

In the next three years, Guangzhou plans to increase annual port handling capacity by 80m tons and add 20 new international shipping routes.

In addition, the city plans to add three more rail container connections linking Yunan, Hunan, Jiangxi, Guizhou, Guangxi and Sichuan as part of the efforts to expand. It will also accelerate the development of Nansha International Automobile Logistics Park to support Guangzhou Port to become a major automobile logistics hub in the region.
