Gulf Marine Services to provide liftboat training in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi: Gulf Marine Services (GMS) is to use Abu Dhabi Ports’ Maritime Training Centre in Musaffah to provide simulator training for existing and potential liftboat masters, the first training programme of its kind in the GCC region.

Training will be conducted by certified instructors from GMS, the Middle East’s largest provider of self-propelled and self-elevating accommodation liftboats or jackup barges.

The course will be provided initially for GMS employees but will be open for other candidates “in the near future”, a statement said today.

Abu Dhabi Ports and GMS have signed a two-year contract, which will provide GMS with 60 days’ access to the centre’s ship manoeuvring simulator per year.

“It allows us to repeat difficult and complex operations until the trainee is well practiced in any given scenario. Our trainee Barge Masters can process several different manoeuvres from the safety of a simulator in one day, this is not possible in the real offshore environment,” said Duncan Anderson, CEO of GMS.
