Gungen in for pair of suezmaxes

Broking sources report that Ankara-headquartered Gungen Shipping & Trading is understood to have contracted two 153,000 dwt sized suezmaxes at South Korea’s Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI).

The tankers have deliveries dated from mid-2017 onwards.

No price was revealed but the contract comes with options for two more.

The Turkish suzemax specialist owns four modern tankers. It is a 1990-formed spinoff of the former marine operations department within Güngen Foreign Trade, which was founded in 1976 as a family owned company.

For HHI, the world’s largest shipbuilder, the decision to accept suezmaxes is a sign of the times – its orderbook damaged by a series of offshore cancellations and in need of filling out a number of earlier slots.
