H Schepers reportedly sells last boxship

Multiple shipbroking reports suggest the 2,546 teu Maria-Katharina S has been sold, which would mark the end of another famous name in German boxship owning.

The 2010-built ship has been sold to UK interests, with Tufton Oceanic being tipped as the likely buyer, for a bargain $8.5m.

The vessel is the last one owned by H. Schepers, a big name of the KG heyday of German shipping. Top management at the Elsfleth-headquartered have yet to reply to questions sent by Splash earlier today.

The ship is currently on charter to Maersk and is of the popular YZJ 2500 design, built by China’s Yangzijiang Shipbuilding.

In March this year, Splash reported H. Schepers had sold its second to last ship, the 2,447 teu Helene S to Indonesia’s Tanto Intim Line for $10m.
