Halong Bay cancellation sparks sit-in protest onboard Costa ship

Hong Kong: Police have been called in to try and mediate a row between hundreds of unhappy passengers and a cruiseship firm. Passengers refused to disembark the Costa Victoria this morning on its return to Hong Kong, protesting the ship’s decision to nix part of their six-day tour.

The ship was supposed to call at Halong Bay in northern Vietnam for half a day, but a sunken vessel blocked the entrance to the port. Irate passengers are demanding compensation from their travel agency, the local South China Morning Post reported.

The ship has docked at Ocean Terminal in Hong Kong’s Tsim Sha Tsui. Around 340 people have taken part in the protest.  [06/02/14]
