Hanoi favours airport construction, keen to divest its ports

Hanoi: Hanoi is switching transport infrastructure priorities. The Ministry of Transport (MOT) has ditched plans to build ports this year in favour of more airports.

Transport Minister Dinh La Thang recently said that Lach Huyen will be the last seaport project in Vietnam to be funded by the state. On the contrary, the state is now actively looking to divest itself of port investments. Too many ports for too little cargo along Vietnam’s coastline, especially in the south, has seen many port operators struggle to make profits in recent years.
