Hanoi gives SBIC the lead

Hanoi: The Ministry of Transport has said Shipbuilding Industry Corp (SBIC) will act as a flagship firm to implement the country’s marine economic development strategy. The announcement suggests SBIC, formerly Vinashin, has come through the worst of its restructuring following its damaging bankruptcy a few years ago.

Shipbuilding should be a “spearhead industry” in the marine economic development strategy, according to deputy minister of transport Nguyen Van Cong. The government has vowed to bolster the shipbuilding industry and to create strong supporting industries to the sector so that it can be building more than 2m dwt a year by 2020.  [13/11/14]
