Heerema Fabrication awarded Aker BP contract

Aker BP has awarded a contract to Heerema Fabrication Group Vlissingen in the Netherlands for the procurement and construction of the Munin jacket in the Yggdrasil area.

Munin is an unmanned production platform in the northern part of the Yggdrasil in the North Sea. Aibel is delivering the topsides, while Aker Solutions will do the detailed engineering of the jacket. The project procurement will start in the autumn, and construction is set to start at the beginning of 2024.

The 130-m high Munin jacket weighs 5.800 tonnes. It will be installed at a water depth of 105 m. Installation is planned for 2025, and Aker BP has secured lifting capacity for all the installations in the Yggdrasil area.

Yggdrasil consists of the Hugin, Fulla, and Munin license groups and the area is between Alvheim and Oseberg in the North Sea. The area contains a total of around 650 m barrels of oil equivalent. Total investments are estimated at NOK115bn ($10.5bn) in real 2022 terms.

Plans for development and operation have already been submitted to the Norwegian Ministry of Petroleum and Energy. Aker BP has entered into agreements amounting to over NOK50bn with alliance partners and suppliers, all conditional on the plans getting the green light from Norwegian authorities.
