Hess takes over Perisai drilling rig in Malaysia after signing farm-out agreement

Hess Exploration and Production Malaysia has signed a $26.9m deal to take over the charter of a jack-up drilling rig owned by Perisai Offshore for a nine-month deployment in Malaysia.

A farm-out deal has been agreed that will see Hess take over Petronas Carigali’s drilling interests in Malaysia for the nine-month period, which began on September 23.

Hess has the option to extend the contract by one month. The rig, Perisai Pacific 101, will be reassigned to Petronas Carigali at the end of the period.

In May 2014, Petronas Carigali signed a three-year charter worth $158m for the drilling rig, which is managed by Hercules Offshore.

The rig is a Pacific-class 400 Jack-up drilling rig designed to drill high-pressure and high-temperature wells up to 30,000 feet in depth in water up to 400 feet deep.
