Höegh LNG axes FSRU newbuild charter with GEI Pakistan

Norway’s Höegh LNG has terminated a contract with Global Energy Infrastructure (GEI) for the charter of FSRU #9, currently under construction at South Korea’s Hyundai Heavy Industries.

Höegh LNG announced the contract back in December 2016, with the FSRU to be utilised at GEI’s LNG import project in Pakistan once the vessel was delivered in the fourth quarter of 2018.

Earlier in the month, Höegh LNG’s CEO Sveinung J.S. Støhle indicated the company was having issues with the contract when he said it had “experienced delays regarding FSRU contracts with future start-up dates.”

Höegh LNG is now seeking alternative employment for FSRU #9, and is optimistic that firm employment will be in place before the vessel is delivered.
