Holbud behind Golden Ocean kamsarmax acquisition

UK-based commodity trader Holbud Group is the buyer of 2010-built Golden Ocean kamsarmax Golden Eminence.

Optima Shibrokers had reported the sale by John Fredriksen’s Golden Ocean earlier this month at $14.7m to undisclosed buyers, and broking sources tell Splash that Holbud is behind the deal.

Commodity trader Holbud is led by Hasanain Merali and has connections to high profile billionaire businessman Naushad Merali. The company owns nine bulkers via Indian-based SNP Shipping Services.

Naushad Merali is the founder of the Kenyan mobile operator Kencell and French media giant Vivendi. His Sameer Group employs more than 30,000 people in Kenya.
