HR a severe bottleneck for China’s cruise ambitions

Shanghai: China’s rapidly developing cruise industry urgently needs more trained staff, a leading academic has warned.

“China has a huge cruise market capacity, and urgently needs more cruise talents,” Chen Xinde, professor of Shanghai University of Engineering Science said. The shortage of cruise talent will be a bottleneck for China’s cruise industry development.

Based on a conservative estimate, by 2020, the cruise and yachting industries in China will need to employ more than 300,000 people.

Currently, China has around 10 colleges to cultivate cruise professionals, with just 1,000 people graduating with cruise-related degrees annually.  [09/07/12]
