Hudong Zhonghua delivers first export LNG ship

Shanghai: Shanghai Hudong Zhonghua Shipbuilding, an affiliate shipyard of state run CSSC Group, delivered a 172,000cu m LNG carrier to MOL yesterday. The vessel is Hudong Zhonghua’s first export LNG carrier.

The LNG carrier “Papua” is jointly invested in by MOL, China Shipping Group and Sinopec, and it is the largest LNG carrier it has ever been built. The vessel will be chartered to Exxon-mobil to ship LNG from its PNG LNG project in Papua New Guinea.

MOL has another three LNG carriers under construction at Hudong Zhonghua, deliveries are expected to follow at five-monthly intervals.

Hudong Zhonghua is the only shipyard in China to construct large scale LNG carriers, and it now has a total orderbook of 13 LNG carriers. [09/01/15]
