Hurricane Patricia claims bulker

Mexican bulk carrier Los Llanitos was pushed aground onto rocks by hurricane Patricia on Saturday off Manzanillo, Colima.

The ship suffered several cracks in the hull including the engine area, and is at risk of severe damage.

The Mexican navy carried out a rescue operation and evaculated 19 out of 27 crewmembers onboard and transferred them to facilities in Manzanillo, where they received a medical assessment, while the remaining crew volunteered to stay and try to salvage the ship.
