Vintage ice-class tanker tonnage is still favoured by a battalion of cash-hungry, opportunistic unidentified owners willing to pay staggering prices.
Over the weekend, brokers noted that Thenamaris’ fleet sale continues. Multiple brokers report that the Greek player is selling the Hyundai-built, ice class 1A, 117,000 dwt, 2006-built Seamagic, with a price tag of $47m attached to the deal by some, while others note the ship selling for $45m.
In a comparable deal to show how much the price has gone up for ice-class tonnage, in late November Thenamaris sold another ship with an ice 1C notation, two letters down from the A class. The two-year older, 115,000 dwt Seatrust went for $11m less than the Seamagic. Thenamaris has cashed in on the changed tanker dynamics, noted selling 15 vintage tankers for record high prices since last summer.
Ice-class notation is selling in all segments. A string of medium-range tankers has been sold recently at higher levels than last.
