Ilshin Shipping orders revolutionary new LNG-fuelled bulker

South Korea’s Ilshin Shipping has ordered a revolutionary new bulk carrier at Hyundai Mipo Dockyard. The 50,000 dwt ship will be LNG-fuelled.

The LNG tank will be manufactured with high manganese steel made by local steel mill POSCO.

The choice of metal is different to all existing LNG tanks, which thus far have tended to favour nickel, aluminium or stainless steel.

The ship, due for delivery in November next year, will be dual classified by Korean Register and Lloyd’s Register.
