Indian state-run lines told to order locally

State-run shipping lines in India will have to order vessels locally after 2025, according to new Ministry of Shipping guidelines. Companies such as Shipping Corporation of India and Dredging Corporation of India will help shipyards develop once a 10-year financial aid package to local shipbuilders expires.

The Nahrendra Modi government’s ‘Made in India’ campaign has a strong emphasis on shipbuilding with local yards set to take on ever more complex vessel types, including LNG carriers.
