Indonesia and HK forge cruise ties

Jakarta: With under three months to go before the gala opening of Hong Kong’s impressive new cruise terminal, local officials are doing all they can to drum up support around the world. To this end Hong Kong commissioner for tourism Philip Yung has been in Indonesia lately looking to strengthen cruise ties between the two places.

He said that Hong Kong and Indonesia’s governments would continue to talk with cruise liners independently and together so that the operators could see the potential major market in Asia Pacific cruise tourism.

Hong Kong’s new US$1bn Kai Tak Cruise terminal can accommodate 3,000 passengers per hour and will be one the most advanced cruise facilities in Asia when it launches.

Separately, Indonesian authorities have committed to deepening the access channel of Benoa Port in Bali, Tanjung Perak Port in Surabaya and Tanjung Emas Port in Semarang to up to 12 m this year.

Indonesia is on course to welcome more than 200,000 passengers next year.  [20/03/13]
