Indonesia boosts seaport development with $81m investment
Jakarta: Indonesian Transportation Minister Ignasius Jonan has launched the development of 20 non-commercial seaports to improve the connectivity throughout the country.
The IRD1 trillion ($80.6m) seaports plan includes Kalatoa in South Sulawesi; Malenge, Central Sulawesi; Paniti, North Maluku; Melano, West Kalimantan; Karimun Jawa, Central Java; and Pokai in West Sumatra.
The new administration is also planning to develop 24 commercial seaports in the coming five years, with a total investment of IRD700 trillion ($56bn), as part of President Joko Widodo’s maritime highway initiative. [29/12/14]
