Indonesia continues to exempt offshore floating units from cabotage rules

Jakarta: Indonesia will continue to exempt foreign-owned offshore floating units from its cabotage rules.
Offshore vessels involved in construction, dredging and salvage segments are still to be exempted from the cabotage ruling, according to the Transportation Ministry.
“We realize that we do not have enough domestic players to work in this specific area so we plan to extend contracts with foreign players,” Transportation Ministry sea transportation director general, Bobby Mamahit said. “We have to do this because we need to support offshore activities in the country and make sure their businesses run smoothly.” [12/12/13]
