Indonesia has its first maritime minister

Jakarta: Indonesia’s new government lineup has a firm focus on shipping with the appointment of Indroyono Susilo as the nation’s first ever coordinating maritime affairs minister.

“The office of the coordinating maritime minister is a new office at which I will face new challenges,” he said after president Joko Widodo announced his cabinet lineup at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Sunday evening.

Prior to the appointment, Indroyono served as the fisheries management director at the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO).
Part of the new president’s election campaign was a promise to build up the disparate archipelago’s maritime infrastructure. Joko’s sea highway plan plans to link up the nation via a number of large ports.  [27/10/14]
