Indonesia looks at tax cuts to boost local yards

Jakarta: Looking to spur the local shipbuilding market Indonesia’s new industry minister Saleh Husin has said he’s looking at scrapping import duties and value-added tax on ship components. The move is in line with the new president, Joko Widodo’s keenness to develop maritime infrastructure across the archipelago.

“Our shipbuilding industry outside Batam is still underdeveloped. We want to provide incentives for shipyards operating outside Batam so that they can expand,” the minister said. [11/11/14]
