Indonesian piracy incidents soar

Kuala Lumpur: In the run up to Christmas there’s been plenty of reports of piracy attacks in the region. The International Maritime Bureau has said there were seven attacks in 10 days from December 10 to 19 across Southeast Asia. Six took place in Indonesian waters and one in Malaysian waters off Teluk Ramunia.

Indonesia has become one of the global hotspots for piracy in 2013 alongside the west coast of Africa. The archipelago has accounted for more than 60% of all piracy attacks in Asia this year.  [24/12/13]
