Interior postpones expected announcement of Atlantic offshore drilling

The administration of US President Donald Trump is delaying an expected announcement about its plans for offshore drilling, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Two days previously, Bloomberg had reported that the Department of the Interior (DOI) would produce a blueprint for the auctioning of oil and gas rights off the eastern seaboard that would open up the Atlantic waters to possible drilling for oil and gas.

The rumoured new plan, which would undo policies of the Barack Obama administration, would apply to the years 2019-2024, and was expected to be announced this week.

But on Tuesday a spokeswoman for DOI said the announcement has been rescheduled for an unspecified future date. She did not give a reason for the delay.
