Investigators chase bulk carrier accused of sinking fishing vessel

Hanoi: Vietnamese authorities are investigating an incident that took place off Danang on October 26 where a Liberian flagged ship is reported to have rammed and sunk a fishing boat and then fled the scene.

Crew from the fishing vessel are being interviewed and the commercial ship has been contacted and questioned whether it was involved in the accident.

The company behind the fishing vessel is seeking damages in the region of $250,000 for the incident. Fortunately, all the seafarers were rescued and no one was harmed.

The Liberian-flagged ship is believed to be called Infinity, its IMO number is 008115215 and it was on its way from China to Singapore when the accident happened. The 34,800 dwt geared bulk carrier Infinity is scheduled to arrive in Singapore this evening.  [30/10/14]
