Iran pledges to contribute towards Duqm port development

Muscat: The Iranian ambassador to Oman has said Iran will invest $4bn in the port of Al Duqm. The port will become a connecting link between Iran, Gulf states and Asia, the ambassador said.

Work is also under way to extend a gas pipeline between the Sultanate and Iran, which should be complete in two years, the ambassador revealed. The gas will then be made available for export from Duqm port.

Oman is pushing ahead with a regional cargo rail plan that will link the country to other Gulf states, which ultimately will allow Iranian goods a new way to reach Middle East markets.  [12/02/14]
