Iraq’s Faw port set for upgrade

Doha: Iraq’s transportation ministry has announced five foreign companies are competing to create a second wave breaker for the port of Faw

The General Ports Authority predicted it will establish the first berth at the port over the next year.

Transport Minister Hadi al-Amiri said during a press conference held at Basra International Airport after the opening of the technical tenders for the five companies in the presence of their representatives: "The technical bidding provided by the five companies from South Korea, Netherlands, and Greece will be analyzed and evaluated, and after the opening of finance tenders in the next month we will announce the name of the company giving the best and most appropriate price, in preparation for contracting with it to implement the project of establishing the western breakwater". The western breakwater will have a length of 16 km and the project will hopefully take 14 months.  [16/07/13]
