Iraqi ship orders near

Seoul: Iraq’s top shipping line is looking to expand and has been on a scouting mission to Korea. The vice minister of transport for Iraq visited Dae Sun Shipbuilding & Engineering of Korea this week ostensibly to check on the progress of three 17,500 dwt multi-purpose carriers (MPC) linked between Dae Sun and Iraqi shipowner, State Company for Maritime Transport (SCMT).

Adnan Shehab Hamad, the vice minister, told the yard it should aggressively participate in the next round of SCMT’s expansion plans as the owner gears up to order a number of different types of ships.

Chinese yards are also expected to market themselves to the Iraqi owner in the coming months.

The three Dae Sun ships are due for delivery later this year and in the beginning of 2014.  [23/05/13]
