Jan De Nul taps Wagenborg for German offshore wind projects

Dutch owner Wagenborg has been contracted by Jan De Nul for offshore project support to transport 107 monopile foundations for Gode Wind 3 and Borkum Riffgrund 3 wind farms to Eemshaven, part of Groningen Seaports in the north of the Netherlands.

The company’s towage unit will ship the monopiles from Germany and Denmark to the temporary storage facility in Eemshaven in the upcoming months, a project that will take more than 30 voyages.

The first shipments have already arrived in the Dutch port under the agency of Wagenborg. Wagenborg Towage will utilise its Wagenborg Barge 8, equipped with hydraulically operated saddles and an additional internal ballast system, to carry three monopiles per voyage.

The 242 MW Gode Wind 3 and 900 MW Borkum Riffgrund 3 wind farms are owned and developed by Danish renewable energy giant Ørsted. Both wind farms will be built in the German North Sea, starting this summer with Jan De Nul’s new heavy lift vessel Les Alizés installing the monopiles. The wind farms should become operational in late 2024 and early 2025, respectively.
