Japan still keen on Dawei

Bangkok: The on-off, much stalled Dawei deepwater port project has received a much needed boost with the Japanese government reiterating its keenness to be involved in the Myanmar project.

A Japanese delegation visited the Thai prime minister, Prayut Chan-o-cha, this week to discuss the potential port. Thailand has been the biggest supporter of the port. The Japanese delegation stressed that Japan was still keen to invest in the port. The Thai prime minister is set to discuss Dawei with his counterpart in Myanmar when he makes an official visit next week. [03/10/14]
