Japanese call for greater use of Batangas

Manila: The Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Philippines, Inc (JCCIPI) has called on Manila to implement policies, rather than merely incentives, to drive cargo out of the congested Philippine capital to Batangas port further south.

JCCIPI noted that discussions promoting the use of the Port of Batangas have been going on for a long time, and “what is needed now is implementation.” JCCIPI also urged Manila to make Subic Bay to the north a more attractive port for shippers.
Local officials responded to the Japanese call by pointing out that efforts to cut fees at Batangas last year have not resulted in any significant cargo volume jump. [17/04/13]
