Assistant Yard Manager - Baltimore, MD

The Assistant Yard Manager is responsible  for the performance of the shipyard personnel for safety, quality, and scheduling including all functions needed to support shipyard operations.  The Assistant Yard Manager will work closely with the Yard Manager to ensure a safe efficient operation.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to grow into a senior management role.  You will alongside an experienced mentor developing your skills and leadership ability to the next level.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead from the front supervising managers, supervisors, and foreman
  • Leads all safety and personnel, production, scheduling, material handling and quality activities
  • Ensure compliance with all safety, quality, company and regulatory issues including USCG and ABS
  • Establish and foster a safe working environment for all employees
  • Directs and coordinates shipyard operations within company policies and procedures
  • Manage the performance of craft supervisors and tradesmen for safety, quality, and scheduling
  • Prioritize necessary resources and processes to accomplish goals on time
  • Use Project Management disciplines to follow critical path and ensure project performance
  • Schedules and conducts shipyard meetings in coordination with the Yard Manager
  • Recommends manning and material requirements to meet plans
  • Travel off site to start and inspect projects
  • Look to improve operations including but not limited to safety, quality, manning, equipment, and scheduling
  • Lead and motivate employees and contractors

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Minimum 7+ years’ experience in a leadership role in a shipyard
  • Bachelor's degree in related field preferred
  • Knowledge of all shipyard trades
  • Familiar with shipyard operations, trades, safety, and management
  • Familiar with all shipyard classification guidelines in relation to government and commercial requirements for all trades
  • Ability to motivate and connect with people with a sense of enthusiasm, passion and commitment
  • Considerable knowledge in all areas of ship repair, material handling, labor, safety practices
  • Ability to work with all levels of an organization internally and externally
  • Comfortable managing customers relations and working with vessel crews
