Our client is seeking a highly motivated Business Development Manager to join our team within the Marine and Industry sector in our office in Houston, Texas. This is an excellent opportunity to undertake a challenging high-profile position.

The Role
The Business Development Manager will be instrumental in developing our offering of marine services within the US. The role is responsible for developing new business, and the key responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:

  • Lead and provide support on major contracts, tenders and quotations;
  • Lead and support contract closing activities and capture lessons learned;
  • Work across the company developing “cross-selling” and mutual opportunities;
  • Track competitor activity and providing updates on competitor news and intelligence;
  • Be responsible for sales and business development initiatives:
    • focused on new sales and business opportunities
  • Visit the ship owning and management companies, shipyards and makers on a regular basis;
  • Drive and monitor the order intake pipeline by updating the pipeline with new prospects to be followed up;
  • Explore opportunities for alliances and partnerships to explore new markets and opportunities;
  • Work with the management team to identify potential acquisition opportunities;
  • Engage with current and potential customers to discuss and understand their needs and requirements;
  • Supporting our focus on customer satisfaction, repeat business and developing new markets;
  • Stay current with future offerings and technology solutions, including but not limited to customer-tailored tools;
  • Reviewing the year result and proposal of the strategy to improve the company and personal performance based on the target and gap analysis;
  • Support and participate in the organization’s environmental and safety program to conform to ISO 14001 and OSHA 18001 requirements;
  • Comply with HSE Policies, Procedures and Guidelines.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum education level: Bachelor’s Degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering or related field; a lower level of qualification is acceptable if there is a considerable work experience and / or professional skills;
  • 5-10 years’ experience with roles concentrated in business development;
  • Proficiency in MS Office (MS Excel and in particular MS Word and MS PowerPoint) and on other company IT software and tools, specifically those of the assigned Business Unit;
  • Strong knowledge of US regulatory framework (USCG,CFR,ACP, etc);
  • Strong relationship with shipping operators, shipyards, marine bureau and shipping associations is a plus;
  • Demonstrated track record of cultivating relationships with clients at every level of the organization;
  • Experience preparing quotation, pre-qualifications and tenders;
  • Success with writing, appraising and negotiating detailed contracts and commercial agreements;
  • Excellent negotiating, communication, and interpersonal skills;
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and open-minded personality;
  • Strong business attitude;
  • Fluent in English, fluency in Spanish is a plus;
  • Outstanding team-player and capabilities to work with distributed international teams.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task;
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to prioritize work;
  • Ability to follow established systems and procedures;
  • Maintain transparent communication. Appropriately communicate organization information through department meetings, one-on-one meetings, appropriate email, IM and regular interpersonal communication;
  • Must be authorized to work in The United States without sponsorship for employment.
